The Della Job – Practicality in North Plympton

The Della Job – Practicality in North Plympton

When the Dellas approached Quality Budget Bathrooms, they were looking for a serviceable bathroom that would accommodate their stage in life. Both retired, they wanted an open, safe space, where practicality was at the forefront.

Despite it’s age and dated style, the current bathroom was in excellent condition!

Alas, the small bath was not getting any use, and the enclosed shower alcove was becoming impractical.

Working together with the client, we created solutions.

Selections

When it came to the styling, the client was open to suggestions, so we worked together to create a timeless, contemporary bathroom to seamlessly integrate their functional requirements in their retired years.

The Shower Alcove

An openended setup for the shower alcove was selected for clear access, plus a mixer tap for ease of use, and a constant temperature every time, instead of the adjustments needed with the old hot/cold individual taps. The mixer is a friendly option for both children, elderly, and everything in between!

For the showerhead itself, a handheld shower head with a bracket on a rail was chosen as it can be raised or lowered, allowing you to change the height for different users, and keeping hair dry between washes if needed. The detachable style means you can also use it for washing the shower alcove… or a lucky pet!

A single, 10ml glass pane was selected for the shower screen. Without a frame, the glass is easy to clean, and effortlessly modern.

A strip floor grate was chosen to drain water quickly, and a wall hand grab rail was included for safety – the height and angle decided in consultation with the client.

Vanity

A moisture friendly, wall-hung vanity was chosen. These prevent the built up of moisture under the vanity and problems down the track as the bathroom ages.

Tiling

Space-enhancing, large white wall tiles offset striking glazed ceramic floor tiles, while the modern rectified edge wall tiles with their minimal grout joins a real feature. Wall tiles were tiled to door height, while minimal grout joints keep the space looking clean and inviting for that hot shower on a cold, wintry night.

Mould and fungus resistant semigloss water-based paint was chosen in Purest White to blend with the wall tiles and enhance the feature floor tile.

Towel rails

The client requested single towel rails one above the other to help the towels dry quicker.

They also requested two hand towel rods positioned next to the vanity to accommodate themselves and their grandchildren!

The Result

Simple, fresh, modern – and easy to clean. This bathroom adds value to the home, and appeals to all personalities, while those extra practical features help elderly clients feel safe and secure in their wet area.

We love the look of this space but it’s not about us! The client feedback truly speaks for itself.
